Examine some of the resources used by nurses and other health professionals to learn how to effectively intervene, treat, and support patients who were battered.

As nurses advocated, educated, and organized nationally, they began to change the medical profession. The National Library of Medicine's collection materials on domestic violence are evidence of the growing awareness within medicine in the 20th century that domestic violence was indeed a health issue, and that medical personnel had a significant role to play in treating and preventing violence. Featured in Confronting Violence are items from the National Library of Medicine's collection, including correspondence between Daniel Sheridan and other nurse activists, early guidelines for care, and medical training videos.
